Antoine Agoudjian

Born in 1961, Antoine Agoudjian has devoted more than 30 years to photography. A former member of the Rapho agency, his decisive encounters with photographers and publishers such as Robert Doisneau and Robert Delpire placed his work within the tradition of humanist photography. His black-and-white work is dedicated to the memory of the Armenian people and their history.

Working in places marked by this history and collective memory, Antoine Agoudjian has developed a distinctive body of work in which history, its traces and its echoes break a long-imposed silence. Since 2015, his use of colour, through his coverage of the wars in Iraq, Syria and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), has marked a new stage in his work. He creates a dialogue between the memory of the past and the history of the present.

In 2017, he received the Public Award at the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Festival for his work on the war in Mosul. In 2021, he received the first CICR Visa d’Or Award for his work in Nagorno-Karabakh.
